Trucker sentenced in Taylor University crash

Robert SpencerOn Tuesday, a Michigan truck driver was sentenced to four years in prison for causing a 2006 highway crash that killed five people from Taylor University and sparked a weeks-long case of mistaken identity.  A judge sentenced him to eight years total but suspended four of them, which would be served on probation.  With time already served including time for good behavior, he will be eligible for release in about a year, the prosecutor said.

Spencer, who admitted he was driving 9 hours past the legal driving limit, fell asleep behind the wheel of his semi on April 26, 2006.  The accident caused the death of four students and a university employee.

While it has been more than a year since the accident occurred, there is still a lot of hurt and pain for all involved, especially with Spencer, having to live with the fact that he caused the death of five innocent people.  We continue to pray for healing and comfort for all involved.
