Bible school student arrested on sex count

A Union Bible College student caught having sex with a 14-year-old
campus high school girl is facing criminal prosecution for sexual
misconduct with a minor, authorities said.  James W. McBryant III, 19, met the 14 year old while washing dishes at an ettiquette class in March.  The two left and went to Union Bible Academy, the high school attached to the college.  The two engaged in sexual intercourse, but were interrupted when a teacher entered the room.

That’s wrong, just wrong.  They say it was consensual.  Law says sex with a person under the age of 16 cannot consent to sex with a person over the age of 18.  McBryant was released on a bond of $10,000.  Regardless, he should have been locked up for a long time.  He’s studying at a Bible college of all places.  I’m sure that having sex with a minor is something that his professors did not teach.

  1. You need to get your facts straight before you comment! I know both individuals involved and what you’ve said did not happen. I’m not saying that I agree with everything that did happen, but people were misled on the facts.

  2. Jen, I would like to thank you for your comments. As this story is a year old, I don’t remember all the details surrounding it. My comments stemmed from the article which appeared in the Indianapolis Star. Let’s say for argument’s sake that this did not occur. Would it still be ok for someone to engage in sexual acts with a minor while studying at a Bible college (or anywhere for that matter)?

  3. Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I don’t think I have checked this since I wrote my comment. I don’t think I read the article in the Indianapolis Star, but I do know that the media tries to put the worst light on everything. I just know that some of the reports didn’t have the facts. Like I said…I don’t agree with everything that happened; on the other hand, I would hate for people to think the absolute worst when that part isn’t true. To answer your last question – I don’t think it’s okay for someone to engage in sexual acts with a minor while studying at a Bible College or anywhere else. But I also don’t think it’s right for anyone to engage in sexual acts with anyone (a minor or not) if they aren’t married because the Bible teaches us that this is wrong. Hope I’m making sense.

  4. Jen, I completely agree with you that it is wrong for anyone to engage in sexual acts if they are not married. That is a violation of the 6th Commandment. You make complete sense. Unfortunately, the media does tend to make a one-sided argument regarding issues. However, the fact that the event occurred cannot be overlooked. What took place was wrong and was in violation of the Word of God.

  5. I happen to know James and his family very well. I find your somments to be uninformed, and therefore, quite offensive.

    What no one knows is that James was not the agressor here. The girl was a foster care kid, and she was sexually active long before this. I have talked to the girl’s foster mother, and this is what SHE tells me. SHE chased James, not the other way around.

    Now, that does NOT make what James did right. Never. But, I think that society has NOTHING to gain by locking him up.

    I know that you had no way of knowing all of this, and that is understandable.

    James is a great young man who made one serious error in judgment. Haven’t we all?
