\"Sacred<\/a> O sacred Head, now wounded,
\nWith grief and shame weighed
\ndown,
\nNow scornfully surrounded
\nWith thorns, Thine only crown.
\nO sacred Head, what glory,
\nWhat bliss, till now was Thine!
\nYet, though despised and gory,
\nI joy to call Thee mine.<\/p>\n

How pale Thou art with anguish,
\nWith sore abuse and scorn!
\nHow doth Thy face now languish
\nThat once was bright as morn!
\nGrim death, with cruel rigor,
\nHath robbed Thee of Thy life;
\nThus Thou hast lost Thy vigor,
\nThy strength, in this sad strife.<\/p>\n

What Thou, my Lord, hast suffered
\nWas all for sinners\u2019 gain;
\nMine, mine was the transgression,
\nBut Thine the deadly pain.
\nLo, here I fall, my Savior!
\n\u2019Tis I deserve Thy place;
\nLook on me with Thy favor,
\nAnd grant to me Thy grace.<\/p>\n

My Shepherd, now receive me;
\nMy Guardian, own me Thine.
\nGreat blessings Thou didst give me,
\nO Source of gifts divine.
\nThy lips have often fed me
\nWith words of truth and love;
\nThy Spirit oft hath led me
\nTo heav\u2019nly joys above.<\/p>\n

What language shall I borrow
\nTo thank Thee, dearest Friend,
\nFor this Thy dying sorrow,
\nThy pity without end?
\nO make me Thine forever!
\nAnd should I fainting be,
\nLord, let me never, never,
\nOutlive my love for Thee.<\/p>\n

My Savior, be Thou near me
\nWhen death is at my door;
\nThen let Thy presence cheer me,
\nForsake me nevermore!
\nWhen soul and body languish,
\nO leave me not alone,
\nBut take away mine anguish
\nBy virtue of Thine own!<\/p>\n

Be Thou my consolation,
\nMy shield, when I must die;
\nRemind me of Thy passion
\nWhen my last hour draws nigh.
\nMine eyes shall then behold Thee,
\nUpon Thy cross shall dwell,
\nMy heart by faith enfold Thee.
\nWho dieth thus dies well.<\/p>\n
