{"id":815,"date":"2009-08-09T21:19:35","date_gmt":"2009-08-10T03:19:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/revtucher.com\/?p=815"},"modified":"2009-08-09T21:19:35","modified_gmt":"2009-08-10T03:19:35","slug":"thoughts-on-the-editorial-how-many-seminaries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/revtucher.com\/?p=815","title":{"rendered":"Thoughts on the editorial, \u201cHow Many Seminaries?\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this week, I received the latest issue of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csl.edu\/Img\/Publications\/CJwebSummer09.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Concordia Journal<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csl.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Concordia Seminary<\/a>.\u00a0 In there is an editorial written by seminary president <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csl.edu\/AboutCSL_President.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Rev. Dr. Dale Meyer<\/a> entitled, \u201cHow Many Seminaries?\u201d.\u00a0 There is a lot of the editorial that I agree with and I encourage you to read it.\u00a0 One thing I don\u2019t necessarily agree with is the following statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We have to plunge our seminarians into the Bronx, into Belize, into Hong Kong, into L.A. (some of the many places where CSL students have gone) so that they are stimulated to find in lost souls, and saved souls as well, that point where the Word can engage the context in which the live.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Since I didn\u2019t have the opportunity to go to the Bronx, Belize, Hong Kong or L.A., does that mean that my seminary education was not as edifying as it could have been?<\/p>\n<p>Another quote from his editorial has me questioning something.\u00a0 President Meyer says that \u201cPersonally, I don\u2019t see how we can continue to sustain two seminary campuses in the Midwest if current demographics, membership losses, and giving patters continue\u2026.\u201d\u00a0 Which seminary would President Meyer advocate close?\u00a0 I\u2019m sure he wouldn\u2019t advocate Concordia Seminary, so that leaves my beloved alma mater, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctsfw.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Concordia Theological Seminary<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Any comments from my readers?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this week, I received the latest issue of Concordia Journal from Concordia Seminary.\u00a0 In there is an editorial written by seminary president Rev.
