Pastoral Year in Review – 2015

2015 is in the books. I had some down time following Christmas and its marathon of services. Now it’s time to jump in, arms swinging, in 2016.

2015 marked another year for me at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gillette, Wyoming. That makes 10 1/2 years here. A lot has changed since I arrived, and yet it can still feel new at times.

And with that, now let’s get on to the pastoral “stats” for 2015:

Sermons: 62 (not counting Advent and Lent sermons)
Weddings: 0
Funerals: 3
Baptisms: 13
Junior Confirmation: 9
Adult Confirmation/Affirmation of Faith: 5

Also this May, I was elected to be Circuit Visitor for the Powder River Circuit of the Wyoming District.

And so, 2015 is in the books. 2016, here I come…

Pastoral Year in Review – 2014

Now that 2014 has ended and I’ve had a few days of rest following the Christmas marathon of sermons, I’ve gone back and compiled all of my stats for the year with regards to my ministry.

This marks nearly 9 1/2 years at Trinity. It’s hard to believe that it has been that long, until you ask me tomorrow and my response is, only 9 1/2 years! Seriously, I have greatly enjoyed the opportunity to shepherd God’s people at Trinity and the experiences here (good, bad, and ugly) have helped shape who I am as a pastor.

Now for the part that you’ve been anxiously waiting for:

Sermons: 62 (not counting midweek Advent and Lent sermons)
Weddings: 3
Funerals 5
Includes 2 men whom God called home too soon
Baptisms: 7
Junior Confirmation: 5
Adult Confirmation/Affirmation of Faith: 3

Pastoral Year in Review – 2013

It’s 2014 and that means it’s time to post my pastoral year in review. As always, 2013 was a busy year for me in the ministry. Then again, when is the pastoral ministry not busy? Without further ado, here’s the breakdown:

Sermons: 59 (not counting midweek Advent and Lent sermons)
Weddings: 0
Funerals 2
Baptisms: 10
Junior Confirmation: 15
Adult Confirmation/Affirmation of Faith: 4

2013 also had a couple of other eventful experiences for me. First, our daughter Maizie was born. Finally, I can say that I have daddy’s little girl. Who doesn’t want daddy’s little girl?

In October, I was contacted by KFUO to do a radio Bible study. It was at 9:00 am St. Louis time, so that meant 7:00 am my time. It started a bit later due to technical difficulties at the radio station and that resulted in a bit shorter of a Bible study than normal. Also, there was a sermonette based on the text as well. You can listen to it here.

That pretty much sums up my end of year post. Nothing too exciting, save the birth of my daughter. Tomorrow means cleaning my desk and trying to start 2014 off on the right foot.

Pastoral Year in Review

It’s that time of year again. Time to review my year in the ministry. So for all those who are dying to know all of the vital stats, here they are.

Sermons: 65
Weddings: 2
Funerals 6
Baptisms: 12
Junior Confirmation: 6
Adult Confirmation/Affirmation of Faith: 5

It was a busy year as you can tell. December was quite busy, as it always is. This year, Christmas Eve & Day came early in the week, so there were services Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday (6 services in 3 days, 4 different sermons). I vow to write my Christmas sermons in July; that way, I won’t be fighting an uphill battle of sermon writing in December.

So now that 2012 is in the books and 2013 has started, I figured that it would be a good time to clean my desk and go through a bunch of old files and purge some stuff. Heck, I might even look at cleaning the stacks of paper and whatnot on the floor. It’s ambitious, I know.

Pastoral Year in Review – 2011

2011 proved to be a year of change for me pastorally. In April, my senior pastor took a call to another church, leaving me as the only pastor. Our church was in a state of limbo from mid-April to mid-August while we evaluated our options as far as our ministry staff was concerned. Things solidified on August 18 when our Voters’ Assembly decided to call me to be the sole pastor of Trinity. So, here are the vital stats for 2011:

Sermons: 53
Weddings: 2
Funerals 7
Baptisms: 5
Junior Confirmation: 15
Adult Confirmation: 3

2011 was a definite change for me pastorally. In 6 years, I’ve never preached every Sunday since there have been 2 pastors here. For the last 8 months, that’s what I’ve been doing. Most of my other pastor friends have been doing this since Day 1 so I’ve been spoiled.

The month of December proved to be a very busy and emotionally taxing month. I had 3 funerals in a span of two weeks with Advent and Christmas rolled in there. Our Christmas Eve and Day services had 4 services (3 sermons) in 2 days. Needless to say, my post-Christmas staycation has proven to be much needed.

So, that’s it. That’s 2011 in the books. Here’s to a new year.

Pastoral year in review 2010

2010 has officially left the building.  I enjoyed a little “staycation” following Christmas services on December 26th.  We didn’t do much of anything.  I played some new Xbox games I got and did some snowblowing due to the heavy storm we got (estimated 6-8 inches).  Needless to say, we didn’t really go out since the temps were in the negatives the latter part of the week.

So, without any further delay, here are the numbers:

Sermons: 24 (average 2x/month)

Funerals/Committals: 7

Baptisms: 6

Adult Confirmations: 3

There it is folks.  Let’s see what 2011 holds in store, shall we?

Pastoral year in review 2009

2009 is in the books.  Sorry for the delay in posting, but vacation came first.  Here’s the stats:

Sermons: 30 (preaching 2x/month average)

Funerals: 4 (including a 22-year old which was very difficult)

Baptisms: 6

Junior confirmations: 12

Adult confirmations: 2

As Porky Pig says, “That’s all folks!”

Pastoral year in review 2008

2008 is done and over with.  Vacation begins Monday with a very early morning flight (6:00 am) with a more-than-likely cranky baby.  These are the official numbers for 2008.

Sermons: 27 (remember, I preach about 2x/month)

Funerals: 3

Baptisms: 9 (including the baptism of my son, Wesley Michael Tucher)

That’s it folks.  2008 is officially closed.

Pastoral year in review: 2007

This year is officially over. Vacation begins tomorrow. I’m trying to remember what I wrote down but I believe these are the official numbers for 2007.

Sermons: 30 (remember, I preach about 2x/month)

Baptisms: 11 (including my niece!)

Funerals: 9 8

Again, I think these are the right numbers, but I’ll have to check when I get back to the office in a week. This pastor is going on vacation/celebrating his 2nd anniversary with his wife. See you when I get back, next year…

Update: I corrected the number of funerals in 2007.
